In Penrod’s essay he states that intellectuals don’t get enough respect. I don’t necessarily agree with this because intellectuals do get respect. Usually when people make fun of someone else it’s because they themselves are intimidated, confused, and frustrated. So if anything, they intellectuals should take the insults at face value and roll with the punches.
You coworkers talk about you and your friends talk about you. There’s nothing you or I or anyone can do about it, People are going to say what they want to say. The intellectuals should be way above petty insults and the like because they are on a higher plane. The people who don’t fall into this resent the fact the can’t get to that level unless they devote a lot of time and energy.
Some people are geniuses. Some have all the common sense in the world. Some are talented artists. Others are great socialites. That doesn’t make anyone less important. It also doesnt mean that we are all going to get along either. That’s the beauty of the world. There are so many differences.
As for all the blog sites that were mentioned in this essay, they are just blog sites. Why would anyone let petty little internet post affect them so so much!? Especially if you’re a genius, you could be spending that time working on finding the flux capacitor to travel back in time!
